Match 44 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see points table leading side Gujarat Titans (GT) take on rock-bottom team Delhi Capitals (DC).
While the Capitals would be aware that they simply cannot slip up any further, the Titans would be looking for a win to move closer to the playoffs.
This season, Ahmedabad has been a batter's paradise. Another matchup where the bat controls the ball will be expected.
DC stay alive as they defend 130 against the chase masters in the IPL!
What a bowling performance by the Capitals.
The Titans lost early wickets but captain Hardik held on. He got a partnership with Abhinav Manohar but it was Rahul Tewatia who got the team back into the game.
However, Pandya himself, post-match said says he is taking full responsibilty of the team's loss.
Ishant Sharma makes sure to bowl under pressure.
Tewatia tries to slap it over the infield but skews his shot and got caught at extra cover.
Rahul Tewatia c Rossouw b Ishant 20(7) [6s-3]
Abhinav Manohar's innings comes to an end.
It was a slower length ball at the stumps and Manohar stayed back and tried to pull it over long-on.
But can only hole out to Aman Khan.
Abhinav Manohar c Aman Hakim Khan b Khaleel Ahmed 26(33) [6s-1]
50 for the skipper!
But he hardly does any celebrations. He knows he has a huge task ahead.
This was a tossed up delivery onto middle and Miller shuffled in to show all his stumps.
He missed and the ball hit the stumps.
Miller b Kuldeep Yadav 0(3)
GT are 3 wickets down inside the powerplay!
Ishant bowls a knucke ball on a fuller length in line of the stumps and the sticks are rattled.
Shankar b Ishant 6(9) [4s-1]
Shubman Gill falls cheaply!
The DC players are celebrating after sending back both the openers.
Nortje strikes off his first ball. Shubman Gill manages to hit the ball straight towards cover-point and Pandey makes no mistake.
Shubman Gill c Manish Pandey b Nortje 6(7) [4s-1]
It was a pitched up ball well outside off and Saha went for a loose drive away from his body.
He only managed to edge it behind and Salt dives to his right and takes a good catch.
Saha c Philip Salt b Khaleel Ahmed 0(6)
It was all but a Titans bowlers day today. While Axar, Aman and Ripal tried to get the runs on the board, the top order did not do much.
Fifties from No.7 or below for DC:
54(25) - Axar Patel vs MI, Delhi, 2023
52*(41) - Chris Morris vs MI, Mumbai WS, 2017
51 (44) - Aman Khan vs GT, Ahmedabad, today
It was a back of the hand slower ball outside off and Ripal Patel went for a pull across the line.
He got the toe-end of his bat over backward point and Hardik ran to take it safely.
Ripal Patel c Hardik Pandya b Mohit Sharma 23(13) [4s-2 6s-1]
Rashid Khan gets his first wicket!
It was a tossed up leg spinner around leg stump.
Aman Hakim Khan tried to chip it but ended up miscuing it towards deep mid-wicket.
Aman Hakim Khan c Abhinav Manohar b Rashid Khan 51(44) [4s-3 6s-3]
Maiden IPL Fifty for Aman Hakim Khan!
This has come at a very crucial time for the Capitals.
Even Axar could not save Delhi Capitals this time!
Axar departs after a cameo. Mohit Sharma went on to bowl a good length ball on off and the batter went through with his lofted shot.
He only managed to get it off the toe-end of his bat and Rashid ran and took a fine catch.
Axar c Rashid Khan b Mohit Sharma 27(30) [4s-2 6s-1]
What a game Shami is having!
It was full and swinging away in the outside off. No great feet movment from Priyam Garg. Saha collects yet another catch behind the stumps.
Priyam Garg c Saha b Shami 10(14)
The ball curves in from a length and Manish Pandey's bottom-handed push only gets him a thick outside edge.
The ball flies to the right of Saha who times his dive to perfection to complete the one-handed catch.
Manish Pandey c Saha b Shami 1(4)
DC three down inside three overs!
Mohammed Shami's art of swing bowling, gets this to land on a good length.
Rossouw has a poke after covering his off-stump. He gets a thick outside edge and Saha completes the formalities.
Rossouw c Saha b Shami 8(6) [4s-2]
It's getting bad to worse for DC!
Priyam Garg flicked it straight to Rashid to short mid-wicket and called for a quick single and didn't move.
Warner who was committed never stopped and kept running to the striker's end.
But by the time he saw his partner was not moving, he was left stranded in the middle of the pitch.
To add salt to his wounds, it was been deemed a front foot no ball.
Warner run out (Rashid Khan) 2(2)
Golden duck for Philip Salt!
A horrid start for DC, not something they need right now.
It was a gentle full outswinging teaser outside off and Salt went for the blazing driving with minimal feet.
Miller at the cover, got the ball on his body taking a good catch.
Philip Salt c Miller b Shami 0(1)
Delhi Capitals have won the toss and have opted to bat.
