8 popular Hindi movies on OTT that bombed at the box office

12th Fail (Disney+ Hotstar)

The most unexpected hit of 2023 was 12th Fail. Starring Vikrant Massey, the movie was released in theatres in October 2023. Its theatrical earnings increased after its November OTT release.

Laapataa Ladies (Netflix)

In March 2024, popular films like Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya were making crores in theatres. But Laapataa Ladies didn't do well. It did, however, receive love when it was released on OTT.

Three of Us (Netflix)

No one even knew of the film when it was released in theatres in 2023. It was available to stream on Netflix in 2024 and that's where the makers found their audience. The movie is about a woman suffering from dementia.

Laal Singh Chaddha (Netflix)

Aamir Khan's 2022 film made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Some felt that the film mocked deities and was a box-office disaster. This, however, compelled OTT users to watch the film in large numbers.

Merry Christmas (Netflix)

Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi's bilingual movie failed to impress at the box office despite its stellar lead cast. The movie was later released on Netflix, where it went on to become widely appreciated.

Farrey (ZEE5)

Salman Khan’s niece, Alizeh Agnihotri, debuted with this movie. The film is about how a school student gets entangled in a cheating racket. Although it was praised online, it did not do well in theatres.

Mission Raniganj (Netflix)

Based on Jaswant  Gill (Akshay Kumar), a brave engineer who rescued trapped miners, the film found appreciation only after it was released on Netflix. It succumbed to Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan in theatres.

Ghoomer (ZEE5)

Having been released in August 2023 alongside movies like Gadar 2 and OMG 2 hurt Ghoomer at the box office. It did do well on OTT though. Saiyami Kher plays a cricket prodigy.
