Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who also featured in the iconic Disco Dancer, is celebrating his 74th birthday today (June 16). Here are some lesser-known facts about him.
Chakraborty has three National Film Awards to his credit. He made his acting debut with Mrigayaa (1976), which earned him his first National Award for Best Actor.
Notably, the Indian government also bestowed upon Chakraborty the third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, in January 2024.
The charming star also made it to the Limca Book of Records as he had 19 movie releases in 1989 as lead actor. This record hasn't been surpassed by anyone in Bollywood.
According to IMDb data, Chakraborty has featured in over 350 films to date. He worked not just in Hindi films, but also in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Odia, Kannada, Telugu, and Punjabi movies.
The most popular film of Chakraborty is the 1982 film Disco Dancer, which was a major box office success. The film collected over Rs 100 crore, worldwide.
Often hailed for revolutionizing Bollywood choreography in the 1980s, his distinctive style of dancing earned him the nickname Disco Dancer. He even judged numerous dance reality shows.
