The Dynamic Duo

SK Bhagavan was one-half of the cult director duo Dorai-Bhagavan which also include B. Dorai Raj. The duo was hugely successful in the 1960s, '70s and '80s

Trendsetters

Following a few modest attempts in the early '60s Dorai-Bhagavan united in 1968 for the very first spy film of Kannada cinema titled 'Jedara Bale'

Namma James Bond

Headlined by Dr. Rajkumar who played CID 999 in the film, Jedara Bale introduced a Bond-like slick 'western' sensibility to Kannada cinema

First Mega Franchise of KFI

Thanks to the success of the first film, Dorai-Bhagavan directed 3 other instalments of the CID 999 franchise over the years

A Grand Beginning

But, did you know the 1969 film 'Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999' was the eternal diva Rekha's debut film as a lead actress?

Rekha, our own certified Bond Girl!

Rekha, who had previously starred as a child artiste and the second lead in 'Anjana Safar', played the role of Mona in  'Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999'

Start of Something Good

Although she did not return to Kannada cinema after that, the film is likely to remain a most special film in her long & vibrant career

A Self-made Superstar

A reluctant actor at the beginning, Rekha would then set foot in Mumbai to rule Hindi cinema for many years to come

The Star Makers

Interestingly, Dorai-Bhagavan also launched the very talented Lakshmi in the 1968 film  'Goa Dalli CID 999'

A long-sustained collaboration

Lakshmi would then act in several Dorai-Bhagavan movies with her on-screen pairing with Ananth Nag proving to be very popular
