Army Day 2023: Celebrate the legacy of Indian army with these films

Major

This 2022 film is based on the life of Indian Army officer Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The biopic narrative starts from his childhood to his heroic actions during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The Sashi Kiran Tikka directorial stars Adivi Sesh, Prakash Raj, Revathi and Sobhita Dhulipala.

Uri

Helmed by Aditya Dhar, the film features Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina and Kriti Kulhari in lead roles. This 2019 action drama film portrays the events that unfolded during the 2016 Uri terror attack. It traces the journey of Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (Vicky Shergill), who led the surgical strike on militant launch pads.

LOC Kargil

This 2003 war drama film is based on the Kargil war fought between Indian and Pakistan, when Pakistani soldiers targeted NH1 and seized the major peaks of Kargil, Dras and Batalik among others. Directed by JP Dutta, LOC Kargil features an ensemble cast, featuring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan.

Border

The 1997 cult classic portrays the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Border is a real-life adaptation of the Battle of Longewala. Following individual plotlines, the narrative follows the lives of individual soldiers and their sacrifices. Another JP Dutta directed film, its ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff and Akshaye Khanna, among others

Lakshya

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, this 2004 film takes us through the journey of Karan (Hrithik Roshan), who gets selected into the army. The film follows his way forward, finding his purpose in life while serving the nation. It also features Preity Zinta in a lead role.

Shaurya

The 2008 drama film is inspired by Swadesh Deepak’s play, Court Martial. Shaurya portrays a trial sequence, where Javed Khan (Deepak Dobriyal) is court martialled. Further proceedings reveal intricate details about the other officers. The Samar Khan directorial also features Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose and Minissha Lamba in lead roles.

Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

Released in 2018, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is an action drama film that narrates the story about nuclear bomb test explosions, conducted by the Indian army and the obstacles that they faced. The Abhishek Sharma directorial features John Abraham, Diana Penty and Boman Irani in lead roles.
