New release

Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan is a sports drama film that releases on April 10 in cinemas. The film is based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim and the journey of football in India

Basic storyline

The film tells the story of Abdul’s loss at the Olympics when his team played barefoot. It then follows a journey where a football team is built not just from Bengal but all over India to win at the Asian Games

Correct screenplay

Although there are certain restrictions while writing a sports drama and that too portraying a real life story, the movie did justice to the genre. Crisp and worth a watch!

Well written and well directed

The story follows the chain of events like the coach’s struggle, the power dynamics in a team, the locker room speech and more. But the important parts have been given a good space

Not a team, but a coach

What not works for the film is the fact that it chooses to ignore the rest 11 players after their introduction. The other actors are not given screen time as much as Ajay

Actor performances

The film shows Ajay has put a lot of efforts into the role. Definitely one of his best performances. He plays the coach and portrays the visible character changes beautifully

Lights camera action

Camerawork deserves appreciation in this film. Adding magic to it is A R Rahman’s music. This sports drama film is not something entirely new but it makes it worth a watch

A fitting tribute

The film delivers a fitting tribute to the legendary coach in football. If you love films around the notion of sports, you surely will have a great experience
