WPL 2024 - RCB's Sophie Devine gets loud cheer at Chinnaswamy Stadium as DC captain Meg Lanning departs

Just what Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would have wanted when they took on Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 7 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 - the wicket of DC skipper Meg Lanning. And surely, the team did not disappoint the crowd at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB's all-rounder Sophie Devine was brought in to bowl her second over, and in the fifth ball, she got the big fish. Devine provided RCB with their first wicket. Lanning went for the uppercut, and she hit it pretty well. However, she picked out Georgia Wareham at deep backward point, and the crowd at Chinnaswamy went crazy as Lanning walked back for 11(17) [4s-2].

Fans online, especially on X (formerly known as Twitter), also spoke about RCB receiving the crowd support and the key wicket taken by Devine, who did not even celebrate after the wicket was taken.

As for the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the toss and elected to field against Delhi Capitals. Both teams have made one change to their side.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana, during the toss, announced that Ellyse Perry would miss out due to illness, with Nadine de Klerk replacing her in the lineup. On the other hand, DC made a tactical change, bringing Jess Jonassen into the playing XI in place of Annabel Sutherland for this game.

RCB have two wins to their name while DC have won 1 from their two matches played. If RCB wins this game as well, they will solidify their spot at the No. 1 spot for now on the WPL points table.
