After a successful inaugural 1st edition, the Women's Premier League's (WPL) second edition is all set to take place from February 23 to March 17, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the previous year, the games were held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, this time, the women's T20 cricket tournament will be held in Bengaluru and Delhi.
Similar to the previous year, five teams will fight against each other:
Mumbai Indians (MI)
Delhi Capitals (DC)
Gujarat Giants (GG)
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
UP Warriorz (UPW)
The opening match will see defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) facing off against last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals (DC) in Bengaluru. The initial leg of the tournament, until March 4, is scheduled to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, while the subsequent matches will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The tournament is set to feature a total of 22 matches, including the eliminator and the final. The team leading the points table will earn a direct entry into the final, while the opponents for the final will be determined by the eliminator match, contested between the second and third-placed teams.
The scheduling strategy avoids double-headers, with only one WPL match slated for each day until the conclusion of the league stage. All matches are slated to commence at 7:30 PM IST.
