Novak Djokovic is bidding for a career 25th Grand Slam and 8th title at The Championship to level with Roger Federer and is now one step closer to that dream. On July 10, Djokovic was to play 25-year old Alex de Minaur in the quarter-final stage of the tournament, but the latter, who was in the round of 8 for the first time in his career, had to withdraw, after sustaining an injury in his Round 4 match against Arthur Fils.
De Minaur tore a cartilage in his hip in the final moments of his previous match, which was confirmed in a scan later. This gives Djokovic a three-day break before his semi-final match with the winner of the Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz encounter on July 10. The men’s singles semi-finals will be played on July 12. This will be Djokovic's 13th appearance at the Wimbledon semi-final stage.
Earlier on July 9, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who stopped Djokovic’s attempt for an 8th title in last year’s final, set up a semi-final clash with Daniil Medvedev, who sent World No. 1 Jannik Sinner home in a well-fought 5-set match. Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul in four sets, after dropping the first.
In the women’s singles category, the semi-finals will be played between Jasmine Paolini and Donna Vekic and then Barbora Krejčíková and Elena Rybakina. But for Rybakina, who has won Wimbledon in 2022, none of the others have ever been at this stage of the tournament. The women’s singles semi-finals will be held on July 11, with the final set for Saturday, July 13.
