Team India and RCB star player Virat Kohli recently had a hilarious trip down memory lane, and he couldn’t stop laughing at himself.
The clip that sparked the laughter was a 14-year-old post-match interview from the 2011 IPL, where a young Kohli, just 22 at the time, had picked up his first-ever IPL Player of the Match award. He’d played a solid knock of 56 off 38 balls against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru chase down 162 at his home ground in Delhi. He batted alongside Chris Gayle, and while the innings was impressive, it was Kohli’s post-match remarks that stole the show — years later.
In the resurfaced video, a confident Kohli says:
"To be honest, I did not plan to bat like that. But when I started to hit the ball well, I took charge from Chris. That was the plan in the middle so that he could play himself in, and I could go for my shots."
Watching it now, Kohli couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Reacting to the clip on ‘18 Calling 18’ on JioHotstar, he cringed a little at his younger self’s words.
"I don't even know what I said. You guys brought it here from somewhere. Chris could play himself in. Waah! Galat fehmi dekh lo!" He joked, poking fun at his own youthful misunderstanding.
He also pointed out how social media has changed the game — not just on the field, but off it too.
"Since the social media boom, fans have started analysing players' quotes, which has become way too twisted," he said.
It was a light-hearted moment that gave fans a glimpse of Kohli's self-awareness and ability to laugh at himself — a reminder that even cricket legends were once young players trying to find their voice.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has played outstanding cricket in the first four matches of the season. The team has won three matches, thanks to promising batting and bowling performances. The team would like to carry on the winning momentum against DC at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, April 10.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals has been unbeaten in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The team has won three consecutive matches and has been at the top of their game. DC would like to remain undisputed by defeating RCB and attain the first position in the overall standings.
