The all-important India vs Pakistan clash at the ICC men's World Cup 2023 has certainly lived up to its billing, although one might contest only one of the two sides left the ground on a happy note. Hosts India would overcome the huge Pakistan threat with great flair and finesse as they defeated Babar Azam and co. with 7 wickets and more than 19 overs to spare.
It helped that the target that Rohit Sharma's boys were chasing down was rather subpar, given the conditions, but Team India's camp would certainly be beaming with joy over how the win was executed. With five of the six bowlers picking 2 wickets each and Rohit, himself, scoring a superb 86 in the chase, there's lots to savour for the men in blue.
However, while the hysteria and the craze unfolded on the streets of Ahmedabad, the Narendra Modi stadium witnessed a rather endearing moment that will leave all fans of the sport quite proud and pleased. Once the game was concluded, the few fans who stayed back a bit longer got the rare opportunity to witness the camaraderie between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli. The two talisman batters were engaged in a sweet moment as the former urged Kohli to sign and present him with a jersey, which the Indian player gleefully obliged.
Fan-recorded video snippets of this exchange have now gone viral along with a few stills from the ground.
Naturally, fans from both sides of the border are touched by the bond and respect that Babar and Virat share for one another, considering that the two players are often part of high-voltage contests in ICC tournaments. Cricket pundits, aficionados and fans often pit them against one another in media but personally, it seems evident that they both are extremely cordial with one another.
Following this game, India tops the World Cup 2023 table with three on-the-trot wins and a stiff net run rate of 1.86. Pakistan haven't done all that poorly themselves, mind you, but the big loss against India has dropped to the #4 spot with a negative NRR. India now moves to Pune for the game against Bangladesh with Pakistan playing Australia next in Bengaluru on Friday, October 20.
