The main draw in the men’s singles category of the US Open 2024 kicked off on August 26 at Flushing Meadows and half of the competitors, including the likes of Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Alexei Popyrin, Ugo Humbert, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Sebastian Baez, Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov, among others, have already sealed spots in the second round, which begins on August 28.

Order of play for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

The other half will be in action on August 27, which, owing to the time zone difference between the US and India, will spill over into the early hours of August 28 as well. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will begin his US Open journey at 10.45 pm, when he takes on Mackenzie McDonald in the first round at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Interestingly, both players’ best at the US Open has been Quarter-final appearances, although their head-to-head record is heavily in favour of Sinner. They’ve played each other thrice and each time, Sinner won. The match should start on time or with a slight delay, based on how soon Women’s singles No.1 Iga Swiatek takes for her match against Kamilla Rakhimova.

The next match on centre court will see current French Open and Wimbledon champion and former US Open (2022) winner Carlos Alcaraz in action. The 21-year-old Spaniard will take on Li Tu, who is playing in his first US Open main draw. Alcaraz and Li Tu have never played each other before, and the former is, obviously, the predicted winner of this encounter. Their US Open first round match is expected to begin on August 28 at 4.30 am (IST). Fans in India can watch the matches live on Sony Sports and SonyLIV.

Other major first round matches include Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Thanasi Kokkinakis at 8.30 pm (Grandstand), Hubert Hurkacz vs Timofey Skatov at 8.30 pm (Court 7), Alejandro Tabilo vs David Goffin at 8.30 pm (Court 11), Felix Auger Aliassime vs Jakub Mensik at 8.30 pm (Court 5), Alex de Minaur vs Marcos Giron at 11 pm (Court 17), Daniil Medvedev vs Dusan Lajovic at 11 pm (Louis Armstrong Stadium), and Tommy Paul vs Lorenzo Sonego at 5.45 am (Louis Armstrong Stadium), among others.
