The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway, and the fans have already witnessed run-fests from different teams participating. The IPL 2025 kicked off on March 22 with the opening clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 1. Virat Kohli (RCB) - 8004 runs

With a staggering 8004 runs under his belt, Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The player has appeared in 252 matches, smashing 8 centuries and 55 half-centuries. His ability to rotate strike and chip away with boundaries comes in handy for the team. During the IPL 2016, Kohli displayed outstanding batting and amassed 973 runs in the season, including four centuries.

2. Shikhar Dhawan (PBKS) - 6769 runs

The second player in the list is Shikhar Dhawan, the batter who is known for his consistency of scoring more than 400 runs in seven consecutive IPL seasons. Shikhar has played 222 matches and scored 6769 runs at an impressive average of 35.25. The player's best IPL season was 2020, when he smashed 618 runs, including two centuries and four half-centuries. He is regarded as one of the prominent faces in the history of IPL.

3. Rohit Sharma (MI) - 6628 runs

Rohit Sharma, who is also known as the Hitman, is one of the most powerful hitters of the cricket ball. Over the years, the player has delivered numerous match-winning performances for the franchise. Rohit has played 254 matches and scored 6628 runs at an average of 29.72, with two hundreds and 43 fifties. Apart from being the third highest run-scorer, Rohit is also one of the most successful captains with five IPL titles under his belt.

4. David Warner (DC) - 6565 runs

David Warner, the Aussie powerhouse, is the third top run-getter in IPL history. His impact goes on beyond just his runs. The player led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to its maiden IPL trophy in 2016. Warner has scored 6565 runs in 184 matches at an impressive average of 40.52. The player has smashed four hundreds and 62 fifties in the league so far.

5. Suresh Raina (CSK) - 5528 runs

Suresh Raina, who is also known as Mr IPL, has been one of the most consistent players in IPL history. With a hundred and 39 fifties, the player scored 5528 runs in 205 matches at an impressive strike rate of 136.76. Raina has played a key role in the success of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Apart from his batting, the player had the unique ability to turn around matches with great bowling and fielding.

6. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (CSK) - 5289 runs

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the best finishers in the history of cricket, has led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL titles. The player has scored 5273 runs at an average of 39.35 in 267 matches. At the age of 43, MS Dhoni is still playing for the franchise that reflects his fitness and passion for the game.

7. AB de Villiers (RCB) - 5162 runs 

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, who is known as Mr 360 because of his unique ability to hit fours and sixes at any part of the ground, is the seventh player in the list. He has scored 5162 runs in 184 matches at an average of 39.70 with a massive strike rate of 151.68. Apart from his batting, the player was famous for his lightning-quick fielding and athleticism.

8. Chris Gayle (PBKS) - 4965 runs

Christopher Henry Gayle is one of the most destructive batters in the history of the IPL. The player has the highest individual score of 175 not out for RCB, which came against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2013. The player used to take down bowlers with gigantic sixes. He has scored 4965 runs in 142 matches at a strike rate of 148.96.
