Former Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik in an interview with Geo Sports was questioned on how to restart India-Pakistan bilateral cricket matches, however, just as he was about to answer, the host interjected, "Should we ask Sania Mirza to help out?"
The answer to the question mentioning the Indian tennis star made headlines as he said, "Humey saath mey rehna ka time nahi mil raha (We don’t get much time to live together!" before laughing.
This comes after rumours spread about the couple heading for a divorce.
He was even questioned on the situation of missing his son's birthday while Sania and him were on a trip.
The Pakistani cricketer said, "When they [Sania and Izhan] went to perform Umrah I had commitments here and when I took a break and went to Dubai to spend time with Izhan, she [Sania] had commitments in IPL".
"Everybody needs to understand we belong to different countries and have our own commitments," he emphasised.
"This is way neither I released a statement nor did she," he added.
Speaking about the bilateral series, he said, "Sports, not just cricket, unites. This is the best way. Whenever we get the opportunity, we should travel to each other’s country. Neighbours have the most rights to each other. We are neighbours and I pray that sports revive in both our countries. Even now, you see the biggest match of ICC is India-Pakistan only. Even not just Pakistan-India fans, but even those from other countries love to see us play.
"If the two countries can play, lots of things can get better,” Malik said. (“Jab sports kheli jaati hai do countries mey, kaafi saari cheez na, naram ho jaati hai")
