In the first weekend of the Shanghai Masters 2024, 32 men will be on court fighting for a chance to move ahead and stay in the tournament. The ATP Masters 1000 tournament began on October 2 in Shanghai, the day the China Open final played out between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Both of these top seeds were also headed to Shanghai and had barely any breather before beginning their campaign at this tournament.

The only concession that the top seeds got was that they had first round byes and hence, took the court only in the Round of 64 starting on October 4 and continuing on October 5 too. As of now, 4-time Shanghai Masters champion Novak Djokovic, who is playing the tournament after 5 years, is in the Round of 32, as also are Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, Alcaraz, Tommy Paul, Alejandro Tabilo, Stefanos Tsitsipas, among others.

Following the Shanghai Masters, there are 3 ATP 250 and 2 ATP 500 matches, before the next ATP Masters 1000 in Paris between October 28 and November 3. The 2024 tennis calendar is ending soon, with a couple of ATP 250 tournaments, the Nitto ATP Finals, Davis Cup Finals and the NextGen ATP Finals. The 2025 calendar’s first major event is the Australian Open, scheduled to be held from January 12, 2025.

This year, World No. 1 is credited with the most ATP tournament wins, at 6, which also gives him the distinction of being the prize money leader. This includes his two Grand Slam wins, at the Australian Open and US Open, as well as the Rotterdam Open, Miami Open, Halle Open and the Cincinnati Open.
