The 2024 tennis calendar is nearing the end and it is now time for the season-ending ATP Finals, which is the most important event after the four majors. Typically, the top 8 players, who have earned the most ranking points in a season, qualify in the singles and doubles format of the ATP Finals.
Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev will play the tournament that starts on November 10. Seven-time winner and defending champion Novak Djokovic had qualified for the season-ender, but withdrew citing injury. Rublev made it to the playing 8 in Djokovic’s absence. This is the first time in many years that none of the Big Three - Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic - is playing the tournament.
The singles and doubles players are separated into 2 groups of 4 each. Within their groups, each player has 3 round robin matches. The top two players in each group face off in knock-out semi-finals, the winners of which will play in the final.
In the singles, there are two groups – Illie Nastase Group and John Newcombe Group. The Illie Nastase Group has Sinner, Medvedev, Fritz and de Minaur, while the John Newcombe Group includes Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev.
World No.1 Sinner is, undoubtedly, the favourite to progress to the knock-offs and final from Illie Nastase Group, along with Fritz. Zverev will likely be joined by Alcaraz as semi-finalists from John Newcombe Group.
Sony Network is the official broadcast partner of the ATP in India. As such, the ATP Finals will be available on the Sony Sports channel and Sony LIV. The tournament kicks off on November 10 and goes on till November 17 in Turin, Italy.
