In the battle of the top 8 male tennis players at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals, strong contenders for the championship trophy are slowly beginning to emerge after 2 sets of round robin matches. The ATP Finals, which kicked off on November 10, has the 8 players divided into two groups of 4 each, with each group member playing three matches in the best of three format. The top two from each group proceed to the semi-finals and the winners into the final on November 17.
As of now, it is World No.1 Jannik Sinnner who is firmly in control and set to make it to the knock-out round, having registered two wins, first against Alex de Minaur and then Taylor Fritz (6-4 6-4). De Minaur got handed a second defeat when Daniil Medvedev found his footing, after a disastrous start to the tournament against Fritz. Medvedev won 6-2 6-4.
Carlos Alcaraz, who was stunned by Casper Ruud in his first match and has been struggling with his health, shook it off to register his first victory in the event, trouncing Andrey Rublev in straight sets. This is Rublev’s second defeat, having lost to Alexander Zverev earlier. Zverev’s second match is slated at 1 am on November 14 against Ruud.
