Mohammed Siraj celebrates in a Ronaldo-esque fashion, a moment he will forever hold dear! Nonetheless, the outlook appears bleak for Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup final. In a mere five overs, the defending champions found themselves reeling at a paltry 12 runs, having lost five wickets.

While Jasprit Bumrah began the day with a wicket, it was Mohammed Siraj who engineered a dramatic shift in fortunes by claiming four wickets in a single over.

Yes, you read it correctly – four wickets in just one over!

With this astonishing achievement, Mohammad Siraj etched his name as the first Indian bowler to accomplish this remarkable feat (in matches where ball-by-ball data is available).

In that remarkable over, Siraj dismissed Pathum Nissanka (2), Sadeera Samarawickrama (0), Charith Asalanka (0), and Dhananjaya de Silva (4).

He rounded off his five-wicket haul within a mere 15 balls, dismissing the Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka, for a duck – unquestionably a record-breaking performance.

In the limited-overs format, Lasith Malinga stands as the sole bowler to achieve this feat. He dismantled New Zealand's Colin Munro, Hamish Rutherford, Colin de Grandhomme, and Ross Taylor in four consecutive balls during a T20 match against the Kiwis.

Notably, Malinga, alongside Rashid Khan, is one of only two players to be involved in three instances (with Malinga having achieved it twice) where four wickets were taken in consecutive deliveries in international cricket. It's worth mentioning that the other two instances involved separate overs.

The 2023 Asia Cup final commenced with Sri Lanka winning the toss and choosing to bat first. However, both teams faced the setback of losing a player to injury, with Axar Patel and Maheesh Theekshana ruled out.

Shortly before the game was set to begin, rain briefly intervened, but it subsided quickly, allowing the match to kick off at 3:40 PM local time.
