The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 Eliminator has kicked off with a bang, brimming with drama from the start! Opting to bat first against the Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batters Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine wasted no time taking on bowler Shabnim Ismail, scoring 14 runs off the very first over. However, RCB lost both their openers in quick succession as well.

However, the focus was on Devine's fortunes as on the 4th ball of the 1st over, Ismail bowled a length ball, and the RCB batter attempted to force it through the off-side with an angled blade. Unfortunately, all she managed was an inside edge that brushed the leg stump before skimming away to the fine leg for four. Although the stumps lit up, the bails refused to fall. Witnessing this stroke of luck, netizens flooded social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), with comments on Devine's fortunate escape.

Nevertheless, her luck ran out in the very next over when Hayley Matthews dismissed her for 10 runs, this time knocking the bails off.

At the time of writing this article, RCB made a brisk start but also lost three consecutive wickets. RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana played a reckless shot and was dismissed for 10 runs as well, resulting in RCB losing both their openers in quick succession after scoring 28 in 5 overs. Disha Kasat, who was sent up the order, could not do much as she departed for a duck.

Regarding the clash, at the toss, MI made one change, bringing in Yastika Bhatia in place of Priyanka Bala. Bhatia, who missed Mumbai's last league game due to illness, is said to have recovered.
