This weekend, the Italian Open will draw to a close. On May 18, the women’s singles finale will play out, which, unfortunately, viewers in India will not be able to watch. SonyLIV, which is the streaming partner of the tournament does not have broadcast rights to the Women’s Tennis Association matches, so, audiences will have to make do with live reportage on international channels to catch the match between the two top seeds of women’s tennis, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek heads into the Italian Open 2024 final with a 7-3 head-to-head record against Sabalenka. The duo last played each other at the Madrid Open, which Swiatek won. The No.1 seed is the hot favourite to win the tournament, considering it is on a court that she absolutely loves – clay. Five of their previous encounters have been on clay.

In the first semi-final Iga Swiatek beat third seed Coco Gauff in straight sets (6-4 6-3) in less than two hours, taking their head-to-head encounters to 11-1 in the former’s favour. In the second semi-final, No.2 Aryna Sabalenka extended her unbeaten track record against Danielle Collins to 6-0 with a straight set win (7-5 6-2) that took her only 83 minutes. This is Sabalenka’s first final in Rome, while Swiatek has won it twice before.

Along her way to the final, Swiatek never lost a set, defeating Bernada Pera, Yula Putintseva, Angelique Kerber, Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. Sabalenka’s road to the finale included wins over Katie Volynets, Dayana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina, Jelena Ostapenko and Danielle Collins, with at least two three set matches.

The Italian Open Men’s Singles Final will be held on May 19. The semi-finalists include Alejandro Tabilo, Alexander Zverev, Nicolas Jarry and Tommy Paul. These encounters can be streamed on SonyLIV in India.
