There were two Chileans in the semi-finals of the Italian Open 2024, but only one of them will take Centre Court on May 19 in the final of the ATP Masters 1000. Nicolas Jarry edged out Tommy Paul in the second semi-final, in a testing three-set match, hours after fellow Chilean Alejandro Tabilo crashed out in his match against Alexander Zverev. Jarry won 6-3 6-7 6-3, eventually and will now take on the No.3 seed and former Italian Open champ Zverev in the final.

This is Jarry’s first ATP Masters 1000 finale, making him the first Chilean to reach that stage in 17 years. His win was punctuated with 13 aces, and 35 winners, a feat he managed in just under 3 hours. Paul was quite the formidable opponent, and literally went down fighting, allowing Jarry to celebrate only after his fifth match point. This was a match that produced some scintillating tennis.

Today on Centre Court it’s time for the Women’s Singles final, where No.1 seed Iga Swiatek will take on No.2 Aryna Sabalenka. The match will begin at 8.30 pm (IST), but viewers in India will miss out on the action as SonyLIV the streaming partner does not have rights to the WTA. The Men’s Doubles semi-finals will be held earlier in the day, with Marcello Arevalo & Mate Pavic playing Andrea Vavassori & Simone Bolelli in the first match at 3.30 pm and Horacio Zeballos & Marcel Granollers against Ben Shelton & Alexander Bublik in the second semi-final at 4.50 pm (approx).\
