The Italian Open finale on Sunday (May 19) puts two men with great clay-court statistics on Centre Court. One has won the tournament before and been runner-up another time, while the other is playing his maiden ATP Masters final. It’s a bit lop-sided, one may think, but if their performances in this tournament are anything to go by, they are pretty evenly poised.
Alexander Zverev won the Italian Open in 2017 beating Novak Djokovic, but was stopped in his tracks by the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal the following year. In the absence of both those heavy-weights, this could just be his chance to add another win to his name. He is expected to win this encounter against Jarry in 3 sets. The Chilean, though, has an arsenal of serves and winners that will stand him in good stead. And if his semi-final match against Tommy Paul was any indication, the final will be quite a cracker of a game.

The last time someone from the country got to that stage was way back in 2007, when Fernando Gonzalez reached the final in Rome. He had lost to Nadal in straight sets (6-2 6-2).
