What a start Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had in Match 22 of the Indian Premier League when Tushar Deshpande sent back Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) dangerous batter and opener Philip Salt on the very first ball of the innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. While KKR gained momentum, Ravindra Jadeja came in and sent back both the set batters.

Deshpande bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off, and Salt threw his hands at it, carving it towards backward point where Ravindra Jadeja took a sharp catch. Salt departed without troubling the scorers.

KKR batters to be dismissed on the 1st ball of a match:

B McCullum vs RCB, 2009

Manoj Tiwary vs Deccan, 2010

J Kallis vs DC, 2014

J Denly vs DC, 2019

Phil Salt vs CSK, 2024*

After that wicket, Sunil Narine was joined by the young gun Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who together in 5 overs, took KKR's score to 50 for 1. However, Jadeja made sure to send back Raghuvanshi (24 off 18) and Narine (27 off 20).

Venkatesh Iyer joined captain Shreyas Iyer, but the former did not stay for long as Jadeja came and sent the tall batter away for 3 off 8.

KKR's score after 9 overs is 66 having lost 4 wickets. Shreyas Iyer and Ramandeep Singh are at the crease.

Regarding the clash, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to field at their home ground. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stated, "Matheesha Pathirana is unavailable, Mustafizur Rahman returns. Deepak Chahar has a niggle, so he misses out; Shardul Thakur comes in, and Sameer Rizvi returns." KKR confirmed they were sticking with the same combination.

On the points table, KKR sits comfortably in the 2nd spot with three wins from three games while CSK occupies the 4th position with two wins and two losses.
