Uff, what kind of games does Punjab Kings (PBKS) find itself in? Another close contest, but another loss for the home side in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as Mumbai Indians (MI) managed to win by 9 runs in the 19.1 overs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The Punjab side was all out for 183 runs while chasing 192 runs.
After a flurry of wickets that fell at the top, Ashutosh Sharma (61 off 28) along with Shashank Singh (41 off 25) managed to get PBKS almost to the finish line, but just like the other three games, this one too did not end in their favour.
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee took three wickets each while Akash Madhwal, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Gopal all had one wicket each to their name.
For Punjab Kings, while chasing 193, Sam Curran (6 off 7), Rilee Rossouw (1 off 3), Liam Livingstone (1 off 2), Harpreet Singh Bhatia (13 off 15), and Jitesh Sharma (9 off 9) all fell like a pack of cards. But it was the strong partnership between Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh and later between the former and Harpreet Brar that took them almost to the finish line.
Earlier in the innings, after being asked to bat first, MI scored 192 runs while losing seven wickets. Ishan Kishan (8 off 8), skipper Hardik Pandya (10 off 6), Tim David (14 off 7), Romario Shepherd (1 off 2), and Mohammad Nabi, who was run out for a duck made very little contributions with the bat. However, it was Rohit Sharma (36 off 25), Suryakumar Yadav (78 off 53) and Tilak Varma (34 off 18) that gave MI a good total.
Meanwhile, for PBKS, Harshal Patel clinched three wickets, Sam Curran took two, and Kagiso Rabada chipped in with one wicket.
