This is certainly something Delhi Capitals (DC) needed after losing wickets at regular intervals - a good boost of runs towards the end. And indeed, young Indian Abishek Porel delivered, scoring 32 off just 10 balls, smashing 4 fours and 2 maximums to help DC reach 174 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

After Axar Patel was run out, Delhi Capitals activated their impact substitute, Abishek Porel, as the new man. He replaced Ricky Bhui, who had departed after scoring just 3 runs off 7 balls. And what an impact Porel had on the scoreboard at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

Harshal Patel was in fine form for PBKS, having taken two wickets before bowling the final over, and Porel went on to smash 4, 6, 4, 4, 6, 1 - scoring 25 runs in the last over to help take his side to 174 at Punjab's new venue.

Speaking to the commentators after the innings, Porel spoke about his runs and said in Hindi (roughly translated to English), "I knew I was going in before the 3rd over. And the support staff told me to be ready as I am one of the impact players. I executed on the field today what I practised before. I planned to hit the ball where it came from. 174 is a good score, and our bowling unit is strong, so let's see."

As for the clash, for DC, Shai Hope was the top-scorer with 33 runs, but it took impact substitute Abishek Porel's last-over onslaught to get them to a good total. PBKS, however, had a very disciplined innings with the ball as Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel both took two wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet Brar, and Rahul Chahar each claimed one. The other two wickets came from run-outs, with DC finishing at 174-9.
