While Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) knew that chasing 287 - the highest total in the Indian Premier League (IPL) - was a tough task, they still got off to a good start with both opening batters Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis posting 79 runs in the Powerplay against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

However, wickets fell, and the momentum slowed down, but it was expected that the in-form batter Dinesh Karthik would come to the crease and attack in Match 30, and indeed he did. Karthik smashed 7 maximums and 5 fours to score 83 runs.
However, his fine innings were brought to an end by T Natarajan in the 19th over. This loss could have been worse for RCB, but DK managed to hang in there and bat like a genius. As he walked back to the crease, he was given a standing ovation by the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd.
Despite the efforts of RCB batters, it was not enough as they lost by 25 runs. Virat Kohli scored 42 off 19 balls, while skipper Faf du Plessis smashed 62 off 28. Will Jacks (7), Rajat Patidar (9), and Saurav Chauhan (0) did not contribute much in the middle order, while Mahipal Lomror (19) and Anuj Rawat (25) got runs at the end.

Earlier, SRH broke their 277-run record by posting a mammoth 287 runs. Travis Head led the pack and scored 102 runs. Abhishek Sharma (34) also played well before Heinrich Klaasen (67) made things worse for RCB. Aiden Markram (32) and Abdul Samad (37) remained not out, adding salt to RCB's poor form.
For the home team, Lockie Ferguson took two wickets while Reece Topley picked up the other. However, all the bowlers were hit for maximums, with the latter leaking 68 runs.
