An RCB vs CSK IPL match is always exciting for fans, especially if it is on home ground of either time. Tonight, the action is in Bengaluru, under the floodlights at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Fans of both teams have been swarming around the stadium, even though it’s still hours before the match starts. And one thing that is on all their minds, besides having their favourite side win, of course, is the rains in Bengaluru. There’ve been intermittent spells of rains across different parts of the city, so, all eyes have been at the skies.

One moment it was bright and sunny in and around the stadium at noon on May 18, and the next, it was said to be overcast. The stadium is said to have one of the best water drainage systems and the outfield should be dry and fit for play in time for the match, even if it does rain now and there are no showers later on. But what happens if it does rain later in the day and the match is cut short? Fans have been whipping out the stat books and doing all sorts of calculations.

For instance, if it doesn’t rain and RCB bats first and scores 200 in the designated 20 overs, the team has to restrict CSK to 184, this becomes 190 and 172 in 18 overs, and so on and so forth (See image). If RCB is chasing, though, depending on the score, they will have to get to the total way before the 20th over. It’s not going to be easy, especially on a night that emotions run high, considering that this might just be the last time that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni play at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
