Once again, history was made at the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai as Australian captain Pat Cummins secured his position as the costliest player in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched the deal for a staggering Rs 20.5 crore after a fierce bidding war.

Expressing his excitement about joining the SRH team, the World Cup-winning captain conveyed his enthusiasm and lauded the 'Orange Army.'

Cummins will be teaming up with his compatriot Travis Head, the 2023 World Cup hero, who was also acquired by SRH for INR 6.80 crores.

While talking to JioCienmas, Muttiah Muralitharan spoke about taking in Travis Head, who went for Rs 6.8 crore. He said, "We really wanted him (Travis Head) because we needed an opening left-handed batter. Adding to that he can bowl spin as well. I never thought we would get him for that price because of his performance being tremendous in the last couple of years in T20Is and ODIs for Australia.

"So, we were waiting for this, and we thought that we would have a tough fight with a lot of teams but in the end, CSK came and fought with us. But we knew they don’t need a frontline player as they have Devon Conway, so they will stop somewhere".

In other notable moves, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured Daryl Mitchell for Rs 14 crore, along with Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur. Harshal Patel will be representing a team much closer to home, as Punjab Kings (PBKS) brought him on board for Rs 11.75 crore in the second set of capped all-rounder auctions.
