India and the West Indies have found themselves on the receiving end of fines by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to their slower over-rates in the inaugural T20I match held in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday. While the Windies emerged victorious, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-game series after clinching a four-wicket win, both teams were deemed to have fallen short in terms of over-rate compliance.

The ICC has said that India's over-rate lagged by a solitary over below the stipulated minimum, while the West Indies faced a more significant delay, trailing by two overs behind the required rate.

"India was fined five per cent of their match fee for falling one over short of the minimum over rate, while West Indies have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for falling two overs short of the minimum over rate," it said in its statement.

"Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Hardik Pandya and Rovman Powell's sides were ruled to be one and two overs short respectively of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration".

Pandya and Powell accept the sanctions:

Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relates to minimum over-rate offences. The ICC said that the players are "fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, subject to a cap of 50 per cent of the match fee."

The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, supported by third umpire Nigel Duguid and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer, as confirmed by the international governing body.

Talking about the clash, West Indies took to the crease and managed to compile a score of 149/6. Captain Powell showcased his prowess by emerging as the top scorer with a commendable 48 runs off 32 deliveries, with Nicholas Pooran contributing 41 runs off 34 balls. However, it was the former skipper, Jason Holder, who truly shone in the bowling department. His exceptional performance played a pivotal role in restricting India to a total of 145/9, ultimately securing victory for the West Indies in this contest.
