Scheduled for September 17 at Colombo's R Premadasa International Stadium, cricket fans have been buzzing with excitement. However, weather forecasts for the game day have raised concerns among both fans and players.

The final match between India and Sri Lanka is slated to commence at 3 PM IST, but the looming prospect of persistent rain has fans known that the outcome of the match may hinge on the weather.

Given the challenges of pursuing a target in a weather-affected match, winning the toss will present a formidable dilemma for the team. 

Will rain play spoilsport?

As per the AccuWeather forecast, Colombo is expected to experience cloudy weather on Sunday, with a possibility of scattered thundershowers in the morning followed by a couple of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Thunderstorms are anticipated at various times: 10 AM, 1 PM, 6 PM, 8 PM, and 10 PM local time. The day is expected to remain predominantly cloudy. 

Meanwhile, the BBC's weather forecast indicates a 70 per cent chance of precipitation at 7:30 pm local time.

What would have happened if the match was washed out?

Contingency plans are in position in the unfortunate event of rain causing a cancellation of the Asia Cup Final match between India and Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup 2023 has a reserve day on Monday (September 18).

However, the organizers are determined to conclude the match on the originally planned day, even if it means expediting proceedings.
