Before the clash at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, India boasted a perfect 7-0 record against Pakistan in previous ODI World Cup encounters, and they maintained their dominance before the massive crowd of around 130,000 at the world's largest cricket stadium.

In Match 12 of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, India secured a commanding 7-wicket victory, extending their winning streak against Pakistan to eight consecutive wins. This triumph propelled India to the top of the points table, bolstered by a strong Net Run Rate (NRR).

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first against Pakistan, ensuring that the Pakistani side was restricted to 191 all out in 42.5 overs. Despite being at 155-2 in the 30th over, Pakistan was unable to capitalize and seemed poised for a 300-plus total with skipper Babar Azam (50) and the in-form Mohammad Rizwan (49) holding firm at the crease. However, Mohammed Siraj's dismissal of Babar led to a dramatic collapse, as Pakistan couldn't make it through their full 50 overs.

When it came time to chase the below-par total, skipper Rohit Sharma played an exceptional innings, making the task even more straightforward. While Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli didn't last long, Shreyas Iyer took his time and notched up a morale-boosting, unbeaten 53 to take India to victory.

Next up for India is a clash with Bangladesh on October 19th in Pune, while Pakistan will take on Australia on October 20th in Bangalore.
