While India managed to dismiss eight English batters, their skipper Ben Stokes has emerged as a significant threat to the Indian side, reaching his half-century on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Hyderabad. In the 60.2nd over, he smashed a powerful six off Ravindra Jadeja to reach his half-century.
Stokes moved down the track, not quite reaching the pitch of the ball, but swung hard to send it over long-on for a maximum. He has proven to be lethal for the Men in Blue, forming a 41-run partnership with tail-ender Mark Wood.
However, R Ashwin dismissed Wood for 11, and now Stokes is joined by Jack Leach at the crease. India is eager to secure the remaining wicket early at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
India has taken 9 wickets, with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin claiming three each, Axar Patel securing two, and Jasprit Bumrah adding one to the tally.
As of writing this article, 63 overs have been bowled, and England has posted 235 runs on the board while losing 9 wickets.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, England had a strong start but lost momentum after the first wicket. Openers Ben Duckett (35) and Zak Crawley (20) displayed aggressive batting initially. However, India gained control once the spinners entered the game.
Ravichandran Ashwin took the first wicket in the 12th over by dismissing Duckett, while Ravindra Jadeja secured Ollie Pope's wicket (1). Crawley fell shortly afterwards, but Root and Bairstow stabilized England's innings. Nevertheless, Jadeja later dismissed Root (29).
Axar Patel brought into the attack, made an impact by dismissing Jonny Bairstow (37), the highest scorer for his side, and Ben Foakes (4). The trio of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel each claimed two wickets, causing havoc in the top order of the visiting side.
