In the opening ODI clash against Australia held at Mohali, India's stand-in captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to field. Fans were thrilled to witness the playing XI, notably the inclusion of spinner R Ashwin in place of Washington Sundar, marking his highly anticipated comeback.

The three-match ODI series between Team India and Australia kicked off at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali on Friday, and fans expressed their excitement on social media about the seasoned bowler's return. However, what truly delighted them was the reunion of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the spin duo featured together in an ODI for the first time since the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

Ahead of the impending ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, the newly crowned champions of the Asia Cup 2023 are focused on addressing any defensive gaps in their gameplay.

In Australia's camp, several key players are currently sidelined due to injuries. Glenn Maxwell, who missed the ODI series against South Africa due to an ankle injury, is still recuperating in Mohali. Captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that Mitchell Starc will not participate in the opening ODI.

Playing XI of both teams:

Australia (Playing XI): David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis(w), Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, Pat Cummins(c), Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa

India (Playing XI): Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w/c), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami
