The Indian men's national football team is preparing for their second consecutive match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (Round 2) against Afghanistan, set for March 26, 2024. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM IST at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, India.

All attention will be on India's captain, leader, and icon, Sunil Chhetri, who will be playing his 150th game for India, a historic milestone for the country. Fans can catch the action live on the Sports18 Network (Sports18 1, Sports18 1HD, and Sports18 3), as well as via live stream on the JioCinema app.
India is entering this match following a disappointing goalless draw against the same opponent on March 21 at the Damac Stadium in Abha, Saudi Arabia. Looking to advance to the third round, this match is very crucial for the Blue Tigers.
Currently positioned second on the table, trailing behind Qatar who are yet to concede a game in the Qualifiers, India's objective is clear: victory.
While a draw would also be enough, a win would significantly strengthen their position. Qatar leads with nine points, while India has accumulated four points, after a 10i win over Kuwait, a loss to Qatar, and a draw to Afghanistan. On the points table, Kuwait occupies the third place while Afghanistan is fourth in the standings.
The top two teams from each group will secure qualification for the third round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America. Not just that, they will also secure direct entry into the AFC Asian Cup 2027, slated to take place in Saudi Arabia.
