The Delhi Capitals (DC) have named Australia's World Cup-winning captain Meg Lanning as their captain ahead of their first game in the Women's Premier League (WPL). The franchise announced on Thursday that she will be supported by India's star batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who has been named vice-captain.
Lanning is one of the most successful captains in women's cricket, and she just led her team to victory in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023, and many of the younger players in the DC camp will be interested in learning more about the skipper.
And surely it won't be any different for Delhi's vice-captain Jemimah Rodrigues, who at the press conference said, "I do not know about the rest but I am going to keep picking her brains and keep annoying her".
Speaking to OTTplay, when asked what is the one quality she wants to pick from Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues said, "Take it all (hahaha)".
She added, "Firstly, it is a privilege to play under Meg. We have seen her winning these World Cups and as a youngster, I am looking up to her.
"You always are like 'what is the difference' and 'how does she lead the team'. Now being the vice-captain, I'll be the closest to her and see her decision-making and also maybe give a few inputs about our Indian players. It's a great opportunity".
At the press conference, when asked about her leadership ambitions with the Indian side, the 22-year-old said, "You cannot try for vice-captaincy but if I am going to get the opportunity then I will do whatever it takes to help India win."
