The 2024 French Open is off to a good start in the Women’s Singles draw, with most top seeds advancing to Round 2 without breaking much of a sweat. Young Iga Swiatek is the hot favourite to win the trophy in Roland Garros for a fourth time, given how good her game has been in recent times. The tournament, which began on May 26, will go on till June 9, with the women’s singles final on June 8. The question is, who will face Swiatek in the showdown for glory in Roland Garros?

The French Open has four preliminary rounds, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finale. The draw for Round 2 has been decided with matches starting May 29 and continuing on May 30 too across the different courts in Roland Garros. The Men’s singles Round 2 matches are also being held on the same dates.

Here’s how Round 1 of the French Open’s Women’s singles matches played out

In the men’s draw, defending champion Novak Djokovic has begun his title defence, while 14-time winner and King of Clay Rafael Nadal crashed out in the first round. Nadal had entered the tournament unseeded, on account of having missed much of 2023’s tennis calendar owing to an injury. He was handed one of the toughest draws of the tournament and went down to Italian Open champ Alexander Zverev.
