All this happened after the dynamic Indian duo defeated Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan in the final match of the French Open Super 750 tournament in Paris.
At the Porte de la Chapelle Arena on Sunday, Satwik-Chirag won their second French Open title and their first final victory of the year. Making it even more noteworthy, the 'Indian duo of destruction' did not drop a single game all week at the French Open 2024.
The Indian shuttlers took the first game 21-11, showcasing pure dominance. The World No. 1 ranked duo never really let their opponents come into the game ever since they started leading it from 4-4.
However, in the second game, Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan showed significant improvement, thanks to some powerful smashes. They even took the lead. However, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty showed their brilliance and turned the game in their favour, leading 18-15. Finally, the game ended 21-17, securing India's victory in straight sets.
As for the Chinese Taipei pair, they proceeded to eliminate the sixth-seeded Japanese duo, Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, with a score of 21-18, 23-21 in the second semi-final, securing their spot in the summit clash after a 36-minute game.
Prior to this, in the semi-finals, the Indian pair avenged their loss at the India Open as they defeated South Korea's team of Seo Seung Jae and Kang Min Hyuk. Satwik and Chirag secured a straight-game victory over the South Korean pair, triumphing 21-13, 21-16 in a 40-minute men's doubles encounter.
Before that, Satwik and Chirag showcased their dominance in the quarter-finals by defeating the Thai pair of Jomkoh Supak and Kittinupong Kedren with an authoritative performance.
