FIFA World Cup: Messi and Co evacuated by helicopter after Argentina fans swarm victory bus in Buenos Aires

Millions of people flooded the streets of Buenos Aires on Tuesday to celebrate Argentina's FIFA World Cup victory, and their joy knew no bounds. Lionel Messi and his teammates were forced to leave the open-top bus and instead soar above the city in helicopters because the crowd swarmed the team's intended parade path.

Since Argentina defeated France to win their third World Cup title and first in 36 years, the football-obsessed nation has been overcome with joyous celebrations. At least 4 million people were on the streets of the bus' route wearing sky-blue and white as far as the eye could see.

Additionally, more than 100,000 supporters had congregated in the 9 de Julio square to see the squad, however, the bus moved at a glacial speed because of the dense crowds.

The squad had to alter their course, shorten the parade, and return to Ezeiza by helicopter because of the overwhelming amount of onlookers. The AFA president apologized to the supporters on Twitter.

Talking about the clash, a hat trick by Kylian Mbappe and a goal in the penalty shootout could not help France win the final game. 

The first half saw Messi and Angel di Maria give Argentina a 2-0 lead, however, two quick strikes from Mbappe saw France pull themselves level 2-2. 

For the majority of the game, France had a lifeless appearance, but late in the second half, they regained their spark. In the final minute of regulation time, the scores were still 2-2.

The extra-time saw Messi score in the 109 minute, but Mbappe struck in the second half of the extra time to make it 3-3 for France. It was in the penalties that Argentina made sure they win the game.
