The 2024 Formula 1 racing calendar will draw to a close with only 6 races left for the year. Following the Singapore Grand Prix on September 22, there was yet another almost month-long break, with the racing to resume on October 18, when the teams and drivers head into practice for the Pirelli United States Grand Prix.

For Formula 1 fans in India, this would mean a sleepless weekend, what with the time zone differences putting practice, sprint qualifying, sprint, qualifying and the race in the dead of the night or wee hours of the morning. As such, in India, the United States Grand Prix will be between October 18 and October 21.\

Held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, the US Grand Prix is a 308.405 km race, that drivers cover in 52 laps of the 5.5.13 km circuit. Lewis Hamilton holds the distinction of most wins at the US Grand Prix, having been on the podium 6 times, while the constructor with the most victories is Ferrari with 10. Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen is the defending champion, but the Dutchman has been having a less than stellar season, having registered only 7 wins so far, all of which came at the start of the year.

At the moment, Verstappen is still in the lead in the Drivers’ Championship, with a 52-point edge over nearest rival, McLaren’s Lando Norris (279). Norris, who has had 3 victories so far, including in Singapore, could turn things in his favour if he wins a few of the next 6 races. His team, McLaren, is already in the lead in the Constructors’ Championship, having surpassed Red Bull Racing. Unlike Red Bull Racing, McLaren has had far more race finishes within the points range with both its drivers, as also Ferrari, which is currently in third place.
