Last weekend, at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc started the race from pole position, but McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who was also in the front row, managed to pip him and take the chequered flag for his second victory this season, after the one in Hungary. The action now heads to Singapore for the 18th race of the season.

The Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix will be held between September 20 and September 22 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. A 4.940 km-long circuit, which drivers lap a total of 62 times for a total of 306.143 km, the Singapore Grand Prix went to Carlos Sainz last year, after beginning the race from pole position. This, incidentally, was the only race of 2023 that went to a non-Red Bull Racing car.

On September 20, Free Practice 1 will be held at 3 pm, with Free practice 2 to follow at 6.30 pm. The next day, Free Practice 3 begins at 3 pm, with Qualifying slated for 6.30 pm. The race on September 22, Sunday, will be at 5.30 pm. All timings mentioned are IST, with the F1 action available to be streamed in India on FanCode.

With only 8 races to go for the 2024 racing season to end, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen is still in the lead in the Drivers’ Championship. A fifth place finish in Azerbaijan got him 10 points for a total of 313, but he’s only 59 points ahead of Lando Norris (254). Leclerc (235) and Piastri (222) are not far behind and still have a fighting chance to emerge as the Driver’s Champion of 2024.

This season, Verstappen has managed only 7 wins, his last coming at the Spanish Grand Prix. Subsequently, he had two more podium finishes in second place at the British Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix. The year’s been rather unremarkable for the Dutchman, who was almost unassailable only a year ago.
