A few days ago, it seemed a possibility that McLaren’s Lando Norris would make Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen’s title defence a tightly-fought competition. There was a permutation that placed Norris at the top of the table, if he could win the last 6 races of the year, but he missed out at the US Grand Prix, even though he began from pole position.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took the checkered flag first, followed by his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr, both of who’d begun the race from the second row. At the moment, Verstappen is still comfortably in the lead with 354 points, while Norris has 297 and Leclerc 275. Verstappen would have to finish the next 5 races out of point contention for Norris to have a shot at the Championship, but the way it is now, the Dutchman seems on course to another title win, with only 7 race victories to his credit in the season so far.
McLaren continues to be at the top of the table with 544 points, while Red Bull Racing is at 504 and Ferrari at 496. The 1-2 finish for Ferrari at the US Grand Prix gave the team valuable points, making it a strong contender for the title. Red Bull is in second place at the moment, but their points are coming majorly from Verstappen only, while both McLaren and Ferrari have 2 drivers each who consistently contribute points to the team tally.
