England's struggles in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 continued as they suffered a devastating 8-wicket loss to Sri Lanka with 25 overs to spare. This defeat marks England's fifth consecutive loss to Sri Lanka in World Cup history.

After a crushing 229-run loss to South Africa, the defending champions were eager to reverse their fortunes in this match and opted to bat first. However, their innings turned into a nightmarish collapse that left them with a paltry total of 157 runs.

England briefly sparked hopes of a turnaround when David Willey claimed a couple of early wickets with the new ball, reducing Sri Lanka to 23/2. However, a formidable partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama ensured victory for Sri Lanka.

With this loss, England's prospects of qualifying for the next stage appear increasingly dim. To keep their hopes alive, they must win each of their remaining four matches, starting with their upcoming game against India.

Indian fans, took the opportunity to taunt England after witnessing their struggles and eagerly anticipated the upcoming clash.

In contrast, India currently leads the points table with a perfect record of 10 points from five wins. One more victory will secure their place in the semi-finals.
