In a remarkable turn of events, Afghanistan achieved their first-ever World Cup victory with a stunning 69-run triumph against England at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 15. The Afghan players received tremendous support from the Delhi crowd, with Rashid Khan notably drawing chants of his name as he walked into bat.

Rashid Khan, whose pivotal role was instrumental in defeating the defending champions, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the fans via X (formerly known as Twitter) for their unwavering support throughout the match.

"Delhi sach mein dil walon ki hai. A huge thank you to all the fans at the stadium who supported us and kept us going through out the game. And to all our supporters around the thank you for your love.” Rashid wrote.

This triumph is also Afghanistan's second-ever victory in ODI World Cups, with their first victory occurring during the 2015 tournament against Scotland in Dunedin. This win puts an end to Afghanistan's 14-match losing streak, which included defeats to Bangladesh and India in the 2023 edition.

Furthermore, this remarkable victory could potentially stand as England's most significant upset in World Cup history. The only other notable upset was witnessed during the 2011 ODI World Cup when Ireland successfully chased down a challenging target of 328 runs against them.

In the aftermath of the match, England now occupies the fifth position, with Afghanistan in the sixth position on the ICC Men's ODI World Cup points table.
