Embarking on a 40-day journey originating at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, the Chandrayaan-3 mission, directed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has triumphantly achieved its sought-after objective: a gentle lunar landing! The Vikram lander masterfully executed its descent, making a soft touchdown at 6:04 PM IST on August 23, 2023.

The whole nation celebrated the massive achievement as India not only entered an exclusive group of nations that have achieved successful soft landings on the Moon but also became the first country to land near the south pole of the moon.

Even Team India, currently stationed in Dublin and preparing for their third and final T20I clash against Ireland, shared in the momentous event by observing the lunar landing from their vantage point.

The BCCI, taking to their X platform (previously known as Twitter), exclaimed, "History unfolds from Dublin! Witnessed the momentous touchdown of India's Vikram Lander on the Moon's South Pole."

Not just BCCI, all the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises also posted about India's achievement on the moon.

About Chandrayaan-3 landing:

At 5.44 PM IST, ISRO had initiated the automatic landing sequence. Currently, the Vikram lander is relying on its onboard computers and logic to achieve a smooth landing on the lunar surface. While the mission controllers at ISTRAC are closely monitoring the progress, the onboard systems of the lander are primarily responsible for the execution.

Chandrayaan-3 is a continuation of the Chandrayaan-2 mission from 2019, which witnessed the Vikram lander encountering a crash on the Moon's surface.

The mission's central goal is to demonstrate ISRO's competence in achieving a gentle lunar landing. With this accomplishment, India has now entered an exclusive group of nations consisting of three members — the United States, the Soviet Union, and China.
