A latest development has just surfaced in the Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma divorce row. The Bombay High Court has directed the Mumbai Bandra family court to take a final decision on the divorce petition filed by the couple on February 5, 2025. The final hearing on the same would be done on March 20. Back in 2020, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma tied the knot following Hindu traditions.
According to reports, the decision to separate is taken with the mutual consent agreement of the couple, under which Chahal will pay the amount of INR 4.75 crore to Dhanashree as an alimony. The reason for divorce cited by the couple is the compatibility issues between the two. Both of them were also living separately since June 2022.
Although the couple had previously asked the court to allow them a six-month cooling-off period as per Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. However, an incomplete payment of alimony from Chahal had forced the family to cancel the plea, following which Justice Madhav Jamdar has asked the family court to decide on their final divorce petition by March 20.
The decision to fast-track the hearing happened due to Chahal's participation in the upcoming IPL 2025, where he'll be representing Punjab Kings (PBKS). The leg-spinner was bought at a price of INR 18 crores by the franchise. Chahal had already joined the pre-season camp to prepare for the league.
Chahal has been out from the national side since August 2023. Despite being picked for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024, the player didn't feature in a single match. Chahal will have a tight schedule going ahead, as the player will play county cricket in the UK after the IPL. The player will represent Northamptonshire, with which he had already played during last year's One-Day Cup.
