In another impressive display, Rohan Bopanna and his Aussie partner Matthew Ebden have gone through to the third round of the Australian Open 2024 with a decisive victory. In the men's doubles 2nd round, they faced Australia's John Millman and Edward Winter, winning 6-2, 6-4 on Court 3.

Bopanna and Ebden maintained their dominance throughout the game, as they clinched the first set 6-2. The Indo-Aussie duo did face some competition in the second set, but they secured the victory with a score of 6-4, sealing the deal and advancing to the next round.

This milestone was achieved after his hard-fought 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6 (10-2) victory against James Duckworth and Marc Polmans of Australia, which saw them reach Round 2. Their two-hour, nine-minute win saw them fire 39 winners and eight aces.
These wins come on the back of an excellent year in 2023, where they reached the semi-finals at the Tour Finals in 2023. They started the year 2024 with a title win in Adelaide.
Rohan Bopanna has won 24 big tournaments and will be looking to win his first major men's doubles championship and enhance his performance at the Australian Open, where he has never made the second week.
The other Indian player, Sumit Nagal, fought hard but lost to China's Juncheng Shang with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 5-7, and 4-6. Shang, ranked 140th, made a quick recovery after losing the first set and went on to win the next three, securing the overall victory.

Before this match, Sumit Nagal had a notable win against seeded player Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan in the first round. Nagal won in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). This victory marked a significant achievement, making Nagal the first Indian in 11 years to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
