In the 360-run victory for Australia in the 1st Test against Pakistan at Perth, off-spinner Nathan Lyon made history by claiming his 500th Test wicket on Sunday at Perth Stadium. Lyon achieved this milestone in his 123rd Test match, dismissing Faheem Ashraf. The 36-year-old spinner continued his remarkable feat by taking Aamer Jamal's wicket in the same over, surpassing the landmark figure.

Nathan Lyon now joins the exclusive ranks of Australians Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath as the third player to achieve the 500-wicket milestone. The all-time leading wicket-taker in Test cricket is Muttiah Muralitharan with 800 wickets, followed by Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (690), Anil Kumble (619), Stuart Broad (604), Glenn McGrath (563), and Courtney Walsh (519).

Making his debut against Sri Lanka in 2011, Lyon has amassed an impressive record with 23 five-wicket hauls and four instances of claiming 10 wickets in a Test match. Lyon holds the distinction of being one of only six players to feature in 100 consecutive Tests for their respective teams, breaking the streak due to a calf strain earlier this year during the Ashes — his first injury in a decade.

Notably, Lyon is the leading wicket-taker in the World Test Championship (WTC), surpassing 150 wickets and boasting the highest number of five-wicket hauls (nine) in the tournament.
