Living up to his "Bigshow" moniker, Maxwell guided Australia to a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, securing their place in the semi-finals where they will face South Africa.

In the second innings, Afghanistan's defense got off to a remarkable start with Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai orchestrating a stunning collapse in the Australian batting lineup. Pacer Naveen struck first, dismissing the explosive Travis Head for a duck, and then followed it up by trapping Mitchell Marsh LBW after he had scored a brisk 24 runs.
