The grand opening ceremony of the 19th edition of the Asian Games 2023 is scheduled to commence at 5:30 PM IST on Saturday, September 23, at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium in China. India will be represented by Boxer Lovlina Borgohain and Hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, who will serve as the torchbearers for the occasion.
Prior to the opening ceremony, members of the Indian contingent shared pictures of themselves adorned in traditional attire, with women elegantly dressed in sarees and men donning kurtas.
Talking about being a flag bearer, boxer Lovlina Borgohain said, "I am very delighted to have the opportunity to hold the Indian flag. We'll try to perform well and bring gold medals. I want all Indians to pray for us. We are excited, we have prepared well and we'll come back with medals."
Ahead of the Opening Ceremony of the 2023 Asian Games, Indian Hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh said, "It's a very proud moment for me to have the opportunity to be India's flag bearer and I would like to wish all the best to all the young athletes of India participating."
The opening ceremony will witness the presence of dignitaries from various nations, including Cambodia, Syria, Nepal, South Korea, and Malaysia. Athletes hailing from approximately 45 countries and territories across Asia will be participating in 40 sports events encompassing 61 disciplines.
India's representation in the 2023 Asian Games comprises a sizable contingent of 921 individuals, which includes 655 athletes, 260 coaches, and support staff.
