Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza has once again stirred speculation regarding her marriage with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, following a cryptic Instagram post on Monday. According to recent reports, the two have been living separately for over a year, while jointly caring for their five-year-old son, Izhaan. While the 36-year-old former tennis star currently resides in Dubai with Izhaan, Malik remains in Pakistan.
Mirza, who bid farewell to her professional tennis career earlier this year, recently took to her Instagram story to share a message that has fueled speculation of a possible separation from her husband.
"If I am communicating, I care. If I am quiet, I'm done," Mirza wrote on her Insta story.
While the couple has maintained a veil of secrecy surrounding the status of their marriage, their cryptic social media posts have only intensified speculation in recent times.
In August, Malik made a significant change to his Instagram bio, transitioning from "Husband to a superwoman Sania Mirza" to simply "Father to One True Blessing." This adjustment once again left fans pondering whether he had parted ways with Mirza.
Notably, Malik is conspicuously absent from Mirza's Instagram profile, with all his pictures, except for one, having been removed.
Rumours of turbulence in their relationship have been circulating since last year, particularly following Malik's photoshoot with Pakistani actress Ayesha Omar, which raised eyebrows in both countries.
The cross-border marriage of Mirza and Malik in 2010 added a unique dimension to their public image, symbolizing the power of sports to transcend borders and foster unity among people. In April 2018, the couple welcomed a baby boy into their lives, naming him Izhaan Mirza Malik.
